Bangladesh suffer 4-1 defeat

Visiting Bangladesh National Football team have been beaten 4-1 by hosts Oman at Muscat in a FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC CUP 2023 qualifiers match.  

In a tough match away from home, the Bangladesh National Football team was greeted with huge support from the Bangladeshi emigrants living in Oman. A video from football analyst Joe Morrison showed the immense away support for the Red and Greens compared to the home team, but in the end, it was not enough for the visitors to hold ground against a side who are ranked 84 in the FIFA rankings, 99 steps ahead of Bangladesh. 

In the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex at Muscat, Bangladesh managed to keep their sheet clean in the first half as the visitors showed resistance. But it was the second-half performance which let the team down as they succumbed to a 4-1 defeat. 

Moshin Jouhar opened the scoring for the hosts in the 48th minute before second-half substitute Rabia Said Al Alawi Al-Mandhar doubled the margin in the 68th minute. 10 minutes later, Arshad Said Al-Alawi scored to make it 3-0 to seal the match. Biplo Ahamed scored for Bangladesh in the 81st minute but that goal turned out to be a mere consolation as Amran Said Juma Al-Hidi scored in the stoppage time to make it 4-1. 

This win takes Oman to the second spot in Group E of the AFC and FIFA qualifiers with nine points from four matches. Bangladesh still hover at the bottom of the group with three defeats and a solitary point against India as qualifying for the next round now looks even more impossible.

Bangladesh's next match in the qualifiers is against Afghanistan at home in March next year.
