‘Ami Prabasi’ app launched to serve migrant workers

In order to make overseas employment related services easier and digitised, the government has inaugurated the 'Ami Probashi' app.

As an initiative of Mujib Year, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed, launched the app jointly developed by the expatriate welfare ministry and private app maker Thane Systems Limited, says a press release.

The minister inaugurated the app as chief guest at a virtual event on Saturday. 

Secretary of the Ministry, Ahmed Munirush Salehin, presided over the event addressed by the prime minister's Chief Secretary, Dr Ahmed Kaikaus, as  special guest.

Ahmed Munirush Salehin said people will be able to use the app as an optional channel for inclusion in the existing data bank of migrant workers. In addition to the existing benefits of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET), users will be able to access BMET's data bank from their own smartphones at home.

Minister Imran Ahmed said the 'Ami Prabasi' app can play an important role in ensuring transparency and accountability in overseas employment. 

Expressing hope that migrant workers would benefit from using the app, he said, "Everyone must ensure the welfare of our migrant workers in tackling the challenges of the current Corona pandemic."

Referring to the contribution of remittances to the country's economy, the minister said a letter has been sent to the finance minister to increase the incentive amount for expatriates from 2% to 4%. 

Thane Systems Limited officials hoped that if all the services of this app can be made available to migrant workers, fraud in overseas employment, the atrocities of middlemen, and high immigration costs will be greatly reduced.

Among others, the inaugural event was also addressed by, BMET Director General Md Shamsul Alam, Thane Systems Ltd Managing Director Tariqul Ikramul Haque, and Thane Systems Director Namir Ahmed.
