Shakib, Mustafiz wait for green signal to join team practice even after being released from quarantine
If they are given the green signal, they will resume practising with the team from May 19.
The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was postponed indefinitely on May 4 as the Covid-19 count continued to increase inside the bio-bubble. Two days after the postponement of the tournament, Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman returned to Bangladesh under special arrangements.
The two IPL returnees had to quarantine themselves on arrival in Bangladesh. As per the protocols, they were supposed to undergo a two-week institutional quarantine.
Shakib and Mustafizur were due to join the team on May 21. But a source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated that their quarantine period has been reduced and the two cricketers went home on May 17.
Bangladesh cricket team is going on resume practising on May 18 after the Eid vacation.
But Shakib and Mustafizur have to wait for the government's approval to join the team. If they are given the green signal, they will resume practising with the team from May 19.
The BCB hasn't given any statement regarding this.
Dr Debashish Chowdhury, BCB's chief physician, said, "I have heard that they are out of quarantine and have gone home. Probably they have been allowed to do so by the government. But they cannot join the team immediately. They need the government's permission to do that. We are yet to get any instruction from the health ministry."
