Mohammedan bag thrilling victory in super over
The rain-affected match went right down the wire as both the sides tied with 88 after 10 overs.
Mohammedan Sporting Club registered a thrilling win in an absolutely remarkable game of cricket at BKSP-4 in Savar against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League on Wednesday.
The rain-affected match went right down the wire as both the sides tied with 88 after 10 overs. Batting first, Mohammedan posted 88 for nine with Abdul Mazid doing the bulk of the scoring. The opener smashed 57 off just 30 balls.
In reply, Masum Khan's late hitting almost got Khelaghar over the line. They needed only six runs to win off the last over. But Abu Jayed produced a brilliant final over and Khelaghar managed to score only five. Masum stayed unbeaten on 33 off 17.
The result then was decided on the basis of a super over. Masum Khan hit a couple of boundaries off Jayed and Khelaghar set a target of 14 for Mohammedan.
Irfan Sukkur, Mohammedan's wicketkeeper batter, started things off perfectly by hitting a six off the very first ball. Khaled Ahmed then bowled a couple of good balls but Mohammedan again gained the upper hand as Abdul Mazid scooped one for four in the fourth delivery.
Mohammedan then needed only one-off two balls. But Khaled dismissed Mazid in the next delivery to intensify the drama. But Irfan Sukkur made no mistake in the last ball and took Mohammedan home with a single.
With this win, Mohammedan have moved up to the fourth position in the points table. Prime Bank, the table toppers, have already qualified for the super sixes as the first team.
