12 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccine arrive Dhaka
A consignment of 12 lakh doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine has arrived in Dhaka tonight.
A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the vaccine shots, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:35am Saturday after taking off from Beijing International Airport at 8:45pm.
Maidul Islam, public relations officer at the health ministry, confirmed it to media.
Another consignment of eight lakh doses will reach Dhaka on Saturday morning, he added.
Bangladesh purchased the vaccine doses from the Chinese state owned company Sinopharm.
Earlier, Hualong Yan, the deputy chief of mission at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, confirmed the news in a Facebook post.
On 12 June, the government signed a deal to procure the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine from China after the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase approved a proposal of procuring 1.5 crore doses in late May.
