Bangladesh end day two at SA Games on one gold, two silvers and 13 bronze medals
Dipu Chakma won the gold in the men’s Poomsae 29-year-plus taekwondo. He, later on, won a bronze along with Mousumi Akther in pair Poomsae taekwondo.
Bangladesh had an eventful day at the 13th South Asian (SA) Games in Kathmandu and Pokhara on Monday as they finished the day with a gold, two silver and 13 bronze medals.
Dipu Chakma won the gold in the men's Poomsae 29-year-plus taekwondo. He, later on, won a bronze along with Mousumi Aktyer in the pair Poomsae taekwondo event.
Kamrul Islam and Mehedi Hasan won the bronze in the 17-23 category of the single Poomsae taekwondo event, whereas Nuruddin Hossain and Ruma Khatun won the bronze in the same age category of the pair Poomsae taekwondo. Anika Akter and Nurunnahar Akter won the bronze medal in the same age category in women's Poomsae taekwondo.
Earlier, Bangladesh won their first medal with Humaira Akter Antara, when she won the bronze in the women's kata karate event. Hassan Khan Sun also won bronze in the same category in men's division. Bangladesh also managed to salvage bronze medals from the team kata karate in both men's and women's event.
Mostafa Kamal and Monjura Borna won silver in the U-55 kg Kumite karate in the men's and women's event respectively. Mohammad Ramzan took home the bronze in the U-84 kg Kumite Karate whereas Atikur Rahman won it in the 84+ kg category in the same category. Fahmida Akter won the bronze in the U-50 kg category in women's Kumite karate.
Bangladesh along with all this success tasted failure too as the Men's volleyball team lost in the bronze medal match to Sri Lanka by 3-1 sets. Also, Bangladesh men's football team, who went to as Nepal as favourites for the tournament, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bhutan in their opening match.
