Police’s involvement in crime dealt strictly: IGP
The police chief made the remarks while inaugurating a year-long training programme for all the force members

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has said police authorities take strict actions on every incident of criminal involvement or discipline breaching by force members and nothing is concealed in this regard.
Some recent incidents of police members' involvement in crimes, including extortion, abduction, bribery, professional misconduct and even mugging, have caused embarrassment to the force, said the IGP on Sunday while inaugurating a year-long training programme for force members at the police headquarters.

Over 2.18 lakh members, ranging from constable to additional inspector general, will have to participate in the mandatory training.
The police chief said police authorities could have kept the issue secret within the department but have made it public to ensure accountability.
However, asked about his involvement with Dhaka Boat Club which came to focus after Dhallywood actress Pori Moni alleged an attempt to rape by a club member, Benazir said the matter was discussed in parliament and it would not be right to comment on the issue.
BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid on Friday asked the home minister in parliament how Dhaka Boat Club Limited on the bank of the River Turag was set up and whether the IGP took permission from the authorities to run the club.
About Police Inspector Sohel Rana, who has recently been arrested in India, Benazir said it is clear that he did not use the regular route for his travel.
"Since he is an accused here [Bangladesh], he can be extradited from India. We have communicated with our counterpart formally in this regard," he added.
