Govt works relentlessly to achieve SDGs: Liton

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said the present government has been working relentlessly for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through inclusive development in the country.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government has been implementing gigantic programmes with an aim to achieving SDGs by 2030," he added while addressing the inaugural session of a daylong roundtable conference on SDGs.
Women with Disabilities Development Foundation (WDDF) organized the conference titled "Dialogue on Gaps and Opportunities of Women with Disabilities" in association with Mama Cash at BGB Party Point in the city today.
Mayor Liton said SDGs are of essence to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all including women with disabilities, adding its key commitment is "no one will be left behind". Public and private sector's development entities and other stakeholders have been engaged in the SDGs implementation process, he added.
He, however, said concerted effort of all the government and non-government entities concerned is very crucial to supplement the government efforts of achieving the SDGs within the time-frame.
Liton told the meeting that the people with special needs aren't the burden of the society but wealth. They have to be built as worthy citizens.
All quarters should come forward towards forging a social movement for welfare of those thereby overall developments of the society will be achieved.
During her keynote presentation, Ashrafun Nahar Misty, Executive Director of WDDF, put forward a set of recommendations on how to mainstreaming the women with disabilities through improving their living and livelihood condition.
Social Worker Shaheen Akter, Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khayer Alam, Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs Shobnom Shirind and District Education Officer Nasir Uddin also spoke while WDDF Member Sharmin Akter was in the chair.
