Charge framed against Dhaka south mayor candidate Ishraq Hossain
A Dhaka Court on Wednesday framed charges against BNP's mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation Ishraq Hossain in a case filed over not submitting his wealth statement.
The judge of the Dhaka Special Judges Court 4, Sheikh Nazmul Alam, framed charges in the presence of Ishraq Hossain.
The trial will begin on February 9 with the recording of witness statements, general recording officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Abdus Salam said.
On August 29, 2010, the ACC filed two separate cases with Ramna Police Station against Ishraq and his sibling Sarika Sadeque.
According to ACC inquiries, Ishraq has illegal wealth worth around Tk3 crore, while Sarika possesses wealth worth about Tk2 crore. They acquired the wealth through unknown income sources.
On May 9 last year, Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes took cognisance of the charge-sheet and issued an arrest warrant against him. He also ordered transfer of the case to the said court for trial.
On December 9, 2019, Ishraq surrendered before the court and got bail.
On December 6, 2018, ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Alam submitted the charge-sheet before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.
