Ishraq’s assistant arrested over shooting during Gopibagh clash

Police's detective branch arrested the personal assistant" of BNP mayoral candidate Ishraq Hossain for opening gunfire during a clash at Gopibagh area in Dhaka.

Ariful was arrested from Mohanagar Project area of Hatirjheel at around 12.35 am on Thursday, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Abdul Baten said at a press briefing at DMP media centre in the city today.
Police seized a pistol and 50 bullets from his possession.
While asked how police identified Ariful, Abdul Baten said, "A case was filed with the Wari police station on Sunday night over the clash. Wari police was investigating into it. DB police was also carrying out a shadow investigation over the matter.
We identified the attacker, after scrutinizing the CCTV and video footages, of different electronic and online media. Ariful also confessed about the attack during the primary interrogation."
On January 26, several people including a journalist were injured as Awami League and BNP supporters locked into a clash in the capital's Gopibagh area during mayoral election campaign of Ishraq Hossain. Ariful allegedly opened fire during the clash.
Vehicles were vandalised and the two groups locked into a chase and counter-chase during the clash.
