5 juveniles held for swindling money in exchange for fake question papers
They embezzled money from at least 60 students last month
The Rapid Action Battalion today detained 5 juveniles on allegations of swindling money from students in exchange for fake SSC question papers through social media.
During a raid from Wednesday night to this morning, the law enforcers detained them from Belabo area in Narsingdi, said Rab 11 Deputy Captain Squadron Leader Rezaul Haque at a press briefing in Narayanganj.
Law enforcers also seized five smartphones from the culprits.
They confessed to their crime during primary interrogation, said Rezaul, adding, the five opened fake Facebook accounts ahead of the ongoing SSC examination and posted advertisements promising to provide question papers and change results for a sum.
The culprits used to embezzle money through bKash accounts and, later, deactivated the fake Facebook accounts once the money reached their hands.
Most of the victims tried to get question papers without their parents' knowledge, said RAB 11 Assistant Director Nazmul Hasan, urging guardians to be more careful and vigilant about their children's academic lives.
The five embezzled money from at least 60 students last month. They used to take Tk1,000 to Tk8,000 from each student.
Nazmul Hasan said there has a group who leaked fake question papers. The group has around 200 member across the country. All of the members' Facebook accounts are locked.
Only those who accepted their friend requests could contact with them.
