25,000 yaba pills worth Tk1 crore seized while transporting in an innovative way
Five men were arrested in separate drives at Comilla
Police on Thursday night arrested five men in Cumilla in separate drives and seized 25,000 yaba tablets worth Tk1 crore from them.
The arrestees are Md Hanif, 30, Shafikul Islam, 35, Nazmul Miah, 26, Rezaul Karim, 42, and Alal Sarker, 30.
Of them, four are from Cumilla and Alal is from Brahmanbaria.
The drives were conducted in Alekhar Char and Debidwar. Police also seized a Toyota microbus, 14 silver magnets and two phones used.
Addressing a press briefing at the office of the superintendent of police on Friday morning, Police Super Shakhawat Hossain said, "Police were tipped off that a microbus carrying yaba pills from Teknaf border would cross Cumilla. A team led by Cumilla detective branch of police Sub-Inspector Parimal Chandra Das was divided into several groups and they took position in different areas, waiting for the microbus to arrive."
"The microbus arrived and police stopped it in Alekhar Char at 10pm. Seven packets containing 20,000 yaba tablets were seized from the ring of the extra tyre. The packets were attached to magnets with scotch tape," he said.
In a separate drive, police seized 5,000 yaba tablets being transported in the same style in Debidwar.
