City University fined for admitting extra students
As per the order, the students will be able to appear for the exams after paying the fine to the Bar Council
The Appellate Division today fined City University Tk10 lakh for admitting extra students beyond approval of University Grants Commission (UGC).
A four-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain also asked to pay the fine to the Bangladesh Bar Council.
This money cannot be collected from students rather has to be paid from university funds, the bench ordered after hearing on an appeal filed by Bangladesh Bar Council.
As per the order, the students will be able to appear for the exams after paying the fine to the Bar Council.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University was present during the hearing.
On October 24, the High Court issued a ruling asking the Bar Council to allow the students to fill in registration form to participate in the enrolment exams after hearing a writ petition filed by 25 students of the university.
The Bar council later filed the appeal challenging the High Court verdict.
The university admitted more than 50 students to its law department without taking approval of the UGC.
