The month of Mourning: A month-long programme starts at Shilpakala
The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) is arranging a month-long mourning programme from Monday to pay tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was assassinated along with most of his family members on 15 August in 1975.
Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Abul Monsur graced the programme titled "Shok Theke Shoktir Ovvudoy Shwapnopuron er Drirhoprottoy" as the chief guest, said a press release.
The programme began with playing the flute which created an atmosphere of deep mourning among the audience.
A discussion programme was also held at the auditorium of the National Music and Dance Centre there.
And Ekushey Padak and Swadhinata Padak recipient poet Nirmolendu Goon and Ekushey Padak and Swadhinata Padak recipient dramatist Ataur Rahman attended the programme as special guests with BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair.
At the programme, noted reciter Jayanto Chattopadhyay recited the poetry of Habibullah Siraji while poet Nirmolendu Goon recited Sei Ratrir Kolpokahini where they depicted the tragic actual picture of murdering Bangabandhu and his family.
On the occasion, the BSA has also arranged a cultural function featuring chorus songs, solo music, poetry recitation and solo children's music where the performers depicted the story of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A Director of the production department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Sohaila Afasana delivered the welcome speech at the programme while the Director of music, dance and recitation department Kazi Aftab Uddin Hablu delivered the vote of thanks.
Moreover, as part of the tribute programme, Shilpakala Academy opened a month-long art exhibition titled "Bhasha Andolon, Muktijuddho O Bangabandhu" at its National Art Gallery on Monday. The show will continue till 31 August.
