BNP’s protest in Dhaka city tomorrow
“The government has kept Begum Zia as a target and imprisoned her by manipulating the judiciary system."
Bangladesh National Party (BNP) has announced to hold protests in different parts of Dhaka city on Sunday as their party chairperson Khaleda Zia was denied bail in a graft case.
The announcement came from a press briefing today, organised after Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) did not let them hold a protest rally in front of BNP's Naya Paltan party office at 2pm on the same issue.
"The government has kept Begum Zia as a target and imprisoned her by manipulating the judiciary system. They will have to pay for this. A nationwide protest rally will take place to condemn the government decision," BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said during the press conference.
He also alleged that the ruling Awami League was manipulating the court to deny bail to Khaleda Zia and her better medical treatment.
Earlier on Thursday, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's bail plea was rejected for the fourth time in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
The High Court further ordered that her treatment is possible at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Begum Zia has been jailed for more than two years after being convicted in the graft case. She has been undergoing treatment at the BSMMU for about 10 months.
