A petroldhead's paradise
A part of the parking lot having the capacity to hold more than 600 cars was full of fine trimmed and tuned rides. Packs of crowd rushing in throughout the event; this is what one calls – the perfect car show.
On a usual Saturday – highways almost vacant, weather hot and humid, I hit the road towards Jamuna Future Park. The mall seemed to be uncrowded; perhaps people had not started flowing in right after lunch.
As I was entering the underground parking, I paused for a while to catch a glimpse of some mesmerising trimmed four-wheelers queued up at the level 2 basement for the Auto Rebellion Underground 2020.
Following the queue, I set foot into the basement and witnessed a Tokyo-drift style car show for the first time in Bangladesh. Little did I know that there exists a huge community of gearheads! Starting from Toyota E90 to Supra – you name it, they have it.

Half of Jamuna Future Park's level-2 basement, holding the capacity to park around 1,200 cars, was full of sleek rides ready to quench the thirst of revheads. There was a segment for exhibitors who came with beauties like the American muscle – Hennessey Camaro HPE650 and Chevy Camaro, Japanese prodigies – Toyota Supra and Nissan 350Z, the little beast – Mini Cooper, and Lotus Exige S.
As the herd of petrolheads started hoarding in, all the showcased cars, ready for action, took turns in showing off their elegance. With a slow pace, the exhibitor cars kept pushing through the exhibition line and took short intervals on the audience's demand.
Throughout the exhibition, the audiences' urge lured the drivers towards engaging in rev-battles. Just as the crowd demanded, two cars back to back started revving engines as the revheads pushed back to enjoy the exhausts firing out flames.
Within no time, layers of smoke filled up the entire venue and surprisingly, the strong burning smell did not seem to be an issue for the crowd – they indulged in the smoke as if it were the winter fog.
All in all, Auto Rebellion Underground 2020 was successful in portraying the fact that the community of car enthusiasts in Bangladesh is not small and it keeps expanding day by day. Also, the community does not focus on specific cars – starting from a Starlet to a Camaro, cars of all segments were at the meet.
