Govt terminating civil servants out of panic: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government is firing public officials out of panic.
"Sheikh Hasina's government cannot save itself by firing government officials," said Fakhrul while addressing a BNP rally in front of the party office in the capital's Naya Paltan area Thursday (20 October).
BNP held the rally to protest the harassment of partymen by leaders and activists of the ruling party.
"The Awami League government has no right to rule the country," Mirza Fakhrul said, adding that they (AL) have failed in all areas.
He said the government should immediately resign and arrange elections under a neutral government.
"Leave power on your own. Otherwise, the people of the country will show you how a government can be toppled."
The BNP secretary general said the ongoing movement is against the anti-people activities of this government.
"Our movement is to demand the release of Khaleda Zia and the return of Tariq Rahman to the country. It is a movement against the killing of opposition activists in different places across the country."
He asked the Awami League government to immediately stop false cases and killing people by shooting.
"Don't forget the history. The people of the country did not spare anyone for their misdeed."
Fakhrul alleged that the Awami League government is siphoning off money looting it from the people.
Apart from him, leaders of the party's standing committee also addressed the rally.
Traffic movement on the south side of the road from Fakirapool intersection to Nightingale intersection in Kakrail was blocked as thousands of activists gathered for the rally.
A large number of policemen were deployed in the area to deal with any untoward situation.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Advisory Council member and BNP Dhaka Metropolitan South Convenor Abdus Salam presided over the rally.
