Delhi riot: Sikh father, son hailed for saving Muslims
Although the father and the son have been showered with praises, Mohinder said he was just paying off an old debt
A Sikh father and his son have been praised as heroes for saving many Muslims during the deadly religious riots that broke out in northeast Delhi last week.
Mohinder Sing and his son Inderjeet Singh hid people in their home before moving them to a safe shelter during the violence.
"Rioters attacked our mosques with stones. Our neighbour – this Sikh gentleman – told us not to worry, and hid me and my entire family in his house," said a man, describing how Mohinder saved his life.
"He [Mohinder] made me wear a Sikh turban so that I could hide my identity."

Repaying old debt
In an interview with the BBC, Mohinder said he believes the entire human race is one.
"We did not see people as Muslims. We just saw them as human beings. Innocent children who were fleeing from violence," he said.
Although the father and the son have been showered with praises, Mohinder said he was just paying off an old debt.
He said he was saved from rioters during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
"I was 17 years old at that time. 3,000 Sikhs were killed in Delhi in riots. The riots in Delhi brought those horrible memories back," added Mohinder.
Forty-six people were killed in the northeast Delhi riots.
