CU fined for cutting hills

The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined the University of Chittagong (CU) Tk9.05 lakh for illegally cutting hills, according to a press release by DoE.
Regional Director of DoE Mohammad Moazzem Hossain imposed the penalty after a hearing at the DoE on Monday.
Under the Section 7 of the Environment Conservation Act, 1995, CU along with three other organisations were fined a total of Tk12.35 lakh. They cut the hills illegally which caused damage to the environment.
