Lawyers want president, prime minister to declare emergency over coronavirus
The lawyers requested to issue a Proclamation of Emergency under Article 141 (A) of the constitution in order to ensure human security
Lawyers on Thursday requested the president and the prime minister to declare a state of emergency in the country to combat the coronavirus crisis.
Advocate Mohammad Shishir Munir, Advocate Asad Uddin and Zobaidur Rahman sent letters to the president's and the prime the minister's offices by post with the request.
Advocate Shishir Munir told the media that, "If a state of emergency is declared in Bangladesh in such a situation, the country and nation will be protected from the coming coronavirus disaster."

The letter said the world is facing an outbreak of Covid-19, novel coronavirus, and Bangladesh is not an exception.
The lawyers said, since coronavirus cases were reported on December 31 last year in Wuhan, China, it has spread to 166 countries and regions. To date, there are more than 219,000 confirmed cases of infection of which over 8,900 have died, as the virus transmits too quickly.
Even developed countries are failing to contain the virus, and many countries including the USA, Italy, Malaysia, Spain, Belgium are under complete lockdown. Some countries like the USA, Italy, Spain, Australia, Libya, Ukraine, Colombia and Canada have declared state and provincial emergency to tackle this outbreak, said the letter.
The lawyers want the president and the prime minister to issue a Proclamation of Emergency under Article 141 (A) of the constitution in order to ensure human security amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
