Brian De Palma, the director of the first film of the "Mission Impossible" franchise, has recently said that he was against the idea of making sequels of the series.
According to the director, Tom Cruise wanted Palma to start working on the sequel. But Palma declined the star's plea.
"After I made 'Mission: Impossible,' Tom asked me to start working on the next one. I said, 'Are you kidding? One of these is enough. Why would anybody want to make another one?" Palma said.

De Palma does not get the appeal of "Mission: Impossible" sequels, but they've proven to be hugely lucrative for Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures. The next sequel of the series was under production until the Coronavirus pandemic.
