Celebrating the Dhaka Elevated Expressway with Volkswagen Club Bangladesh
The empty expressway transformed into a picturesque scene from the ‘60s as vintage and vibrant Volkswagens rolled along making every passerby bring out their phones to capture the moment
On 15 September, as the sky turned orange and pink, several Volkswagen Beetles started gathering up in front of Hatirjheel Bus Stand. It was finally the day for the early morning drive through the newly inaugurated Dhaka Elevated Expressway, hosted by Volkswagen Club Bangladesh.
By 7:15 am, the group started from the meeting point towards Bijoy Sarani Rangs Flyover to get onto the expressway with 18 classic VW Beetles and one new Beetle. The plan was a drive through the expressway towards Diabari, Uttara.
By about 8 am that Friday, the empty expressway transformed into a picturesque scene from the '60s as vintage and vibrant Volkswagens rolled along making every passerby bring out their phones to capture the moment.
After a coordinated drive of about 20 minutes, the Beetles were finally at Uttara, traveling towards Auto Hive, a vehicle workshop located in Diabari Uttara, where the owner of the workshop arranged breakfast for members who participated in the event.
Parking the Volkswagens at the workshop turned it almost like an impromptu Volkswagen Beetle meet as the owners had shared their greetings and talked to each other regarding their classic builds while having tehari.
Soon after the group was done with the early morning tehari, they started towards Gloria Jeans in Gulshan for dessert and coffee, using the expressway again and finally ending the event there as the members headed back home from there on their own afterwards.
During the event, Md Didarul Islam Sujan, one of the founding members of Volkswagen Club Bangladesh, announced that the club is soon going to have a Mega Carnival to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
This makes Volkswagen Club Bangladesh the longest running active car group of the country.
