Extortionists hurl petrol bomb at expat’s house in Chattogram
The victim’s family claimed that the miscreants hurled the petrol bomb after they demanded money in the name of a notorious Jamaat-Shibir cadre Sajjad Ali.
Extortionists hurled a petrol bomb at the house of an expatriate in Bibirhat area of Panchlaish upazila in Chattogram city on Tuesday.
The victim's family claimed that the miscreants hurled the petrol bomb after they demanded money in the name of a notorious Jamaat-Shibir cadre Sajjad Ali.
Debdyut Majumdar , senior assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (Pachlaish zone), said, "The victims have filed a complaint to the police. Multiple teams of police have already visited the crime scene."
"Upon primary investigation, we suspect that an object similar to a molotov cocktail (one kind of petrol bomb) has been thrown and exploded," he added.
According to police, two residents of the house, Nurul Absar and Nurul Akkas, live in the UAE. Recently, they started to construct a building at their ancestral home Chandgaon area of the city.
Nurul Absar received a call on Monday from a man identifying himself as Sajjad and asked him to give a flat in their under-construction building or pay Tk1 crore. The petrol bomb attack happened on the next morning.
The name of Sajjad Ali came under the limelight after the murder of eight Chhatra League leaders and activists of the city in 2000.
Although he has been on the run since then, extortion in his name continues in the city.
