58 cases filed against Chattogram traders for overcharging buyers

The Chattogram district administration on Saturday conducted several drives in food markets and some other places of the port city to control prices of products on the occasion of Ramadan.
During the drives, executive magistrates fined traders Tk293,300 and filed 58 cases against them.
Executive Magistrate Nazma Binte Amin conducted a mobile court in the country's largest wholesale market Khatunganj. She fined wholesalers and warehouses of rice, chickpea, lentil, date and onion Tk120,500 for not showing price lists as well as overcharging the buyers.

Besides, Executive Magistrates Mohammad, Ehsan Murad and KM Ismam conducted drives in several other places in the port city.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ilius said the administration has kept the wholesale market under continuous surveillance.
The retail market will remain stable if the wholesale market can be kept under control, said Ilius, adding that legal actions will be taken if the customers are overcharged.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection has fined a trader Tk10,000 for mixing colour in beef.
The government organisation also fined three other traders for not showing price lists in Riazuddin market.
Deputy Director Mohammad Foyez Ullah, Assistant Director (metro) Papya Sultana Liza of the directorate's Chattogram divisional office and Muhamamd Hasanuzzaman, assistant director of the district office, led the drives.
