115 new Covid-19 cases in Sylhet division
With the newly identified cases, the number rises to 226
A total of 115 people have been identified to be coronavirus positive in Sylhet division from 1,070 samples on Friday.
As of Thursday, the number of people infected with Covid-19 in the division was 111. With the newly identified cases, the number rises to 226.
On an average 150 samples are tested daily at Osmani Medical College, Sylhet. Some samples are also sent to Dhaka for a test.
Assistant Director of Sylhet Divisional Office of the Department of Health, Anisur Rahman, said, "Friday brought bad news for us. The identification of so many patients proves that the virus has reached community-level transmission in this division as well. Now we need to be more aware and be careful."
Dr Himangshu Lal Roy, deputy director of Osmani Medical College, said, "167 samples were tested in the PCR lab of Osmani Medical College on Friday. Of these, 16 corona patients have been identified. On the same day, another 99 patients of Sylhet division were tested positive in lab tests in Dhaka."
Of the newly identified patients in the division 18 are from Habiganj district.
So far, 72 people have been identified in the district with Covid-19 positive. Of these, one died.
