Amphan less than 200km away from Mongla port
The cyclonic storm could hit the port by 6pm today
Cyclonic storm Amphan is now less than 200 kilometres away from Mongla maritime port and it could hit the port by 6pm today, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Amirul Azad, assistant meteorologist at Khulna met office, said, "The 3pm weather bulletin had forecast the position of the cyclonic storm at 200km away from Mongla port and 250km south-southwest of the Payra port.
"It is predicted that the storm could approach the Mongla port by 6pm."

He added that the storm will cross the Sundarbans coastline on Wednesday night. The region has been witnessing torrential downpour accompanied by gusty winds since Tuesday midnight as an effect of the cyclonic storm.
The water level of rivers adjacent to the Sundarbans has risen around 3 to 3.5 feet. There are concerns that a tidal wave taller than 10-15 feet could flood the lowland areas.
"Sixty-two millimeters of rainfall have been recorded in Khulna from Tuesday 1pm to Wednesday 3pm," the assistant meteorologist said.
