All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scampered out to bat right after the end of the fifth T20I where Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh comprehensively by eight wickets at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Shakib, who has been suffering from an eye issue since the 2023 World Cup, has not been in good touch with the bat. On Sunday, he looked quite rusty in his 17-ball stay for 21.
The southpaw headed to the nets after the post-match presentation ceremony was over. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto had a brief chat with Shakib before attending the press conference after the match.
Shakib practiced big hits for around an hour. Bangladesh batting coach David Hemp was with Shakib at that time.
After a 40-minute session, the all-rounder went back to the dressing room. After a break, he returned to the nets and batted for 10 more minutes. He was seen practicing lofted shots through the long-on and midwicket region.
Although he has been in decent bowling form, Shakib's low scores (one and 21) can be a cause of concern for Bangladesh going into the T20 World Cup. But Shanto backed the veteran to contribute for the team with the bat.
"We don't have any doubt about his batting ability. We know how capable he is and I am confident that he will contribute with the bat in the upcoming series and tournaments," Shanto said.
