Former secretary to the industries ministry Md Abdul Halim on Tuesday joined the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) as a commissioner.
The government had earlier appointed three professors from the University of Dhaka as chairman and commissioners of the securities regulator.
Meanwhile, a commissioner, who heads the legal department of the BSEC, is continuing his tenure.
The Financial Institutions Division in a circular on Tuesday confirmed the four-year contractual appointment of the experienced bureaucrat, and he joined the commission on the same day.
Abdul Halim was leading the governance innovation unit of the Prime Minister's Office before joining the Ministry of Industries.
BSEC consists of four commissioners and a chairman. One post of commissioner had been vacant for more than two years until Tuesday.
After a nine-year extended tenure of immediately past BSEC chairman Professor M Khairul Hossain and his fellow commissioners, the securities regulator has got its new leadership recently.
Dhaka University Business Studies Faculty Dean Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam joined as BSEC chairman.
The same university's finance professor Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and accounting professor Dr Md Mizanur Rahman joined as commissioners.
