No charges for late payments of loans, credit card bills: Banks

Banks today announced that they will not charge additional fines for late payments of loans and credit card bills considering the general holidays and nationwide internet blackout.
On Monday, banks sent text messages to their clients in this regard.
In one such message, BRAC Bank said it has decided to not to charge any fee or interest from its customers for delayed payments.
"If charged already, the bank will reimburse the clients. BRAC Bank is committed to stand by its customers," reads the message.
Another bank in its message said clients will be able debit and credit cards to withdraw cash from their dedicated POS/ATM.
City Bank's Managing Director Mashrur Arefin told TBS, "We will not charge any fines against late repayments. Besides, our ATMs are fully functional and clients will be able to withdraw cash when needed."
Usually, banks set a due date for credit card bill payments and charge fines for any delay.

The central bank has not issued any instruction in this regard but will do so as soon as banks reopen, he added.
Amid escalating violence, the government on Friday midnight imposed a nationwide curfew and announced general holidays for Sunda and Monday. Today, the government extended general holidays till Tuesday, meaning all banks including the central bank will remain close.
