Duty exemption on poultry raw materials while cost of imported chicken goes up
The government has proposed to exempt tax on importing two poultry raw materials in order to improve fisheries, poultry and dairy sectors in the budget for Fiscal Year 2020-21. On the other hand, import duty has been increased on packaged chicken.
The raw materials are soya bean oil cake and soya protein concentrate. Five to ten percent duty was imposed on these two products before.
It has been proposed to hike duty of 20 to 35 percent on packaged chicken import to protect the homegrown chicken.
