The inside story is so amazing that you will definitely have a fresh perspective on change while reading.
In the narrative, the word "Cheese" has been glorified as a metaphor for the things we aspire to attain in life, such as a career, power, prestige or luxurious lifestyle. On the other hand, the "Maze" is another metaphor that denotes the places you search for that thing you intended to have, whether in your society or personal life.
What makes this story exceptionally catchy is its engaging dialogues, which delivers the core message. The story will captivate your entire attention, while moving forward one after another page. The story will slowly ingrain in your brain that change is inevitable; whether you're willing to embrace it or not.
The whole story features four characters: two little mice (Sniff & Scary) and two little people (Hem & Haw). All of them living in a maze, centering their life around Yummy cheese. They frequently visit a place called "Cheese Station C," where they used to have their savory cheese every morning.
The routine became a habitual practice for them. Hem and Haw were deep thinkers who could explore situations critically, while Sniff and Scary were less complex and counted on their intense power of smell. Their lives continued in this way until Hem and Haw grew complacent, but Sniff and Scary noticed that the cheese supply was declining. They didn't know where the supply came from, but they were conscious that it wouldn't last forever either.
One morning, Sniff and Scurry surprisingly found the station empty. However, they weren't astonished, as they had already expected this. Without delay, they settled to move on and search for new cheese in another station.
Meanwhile, when Hem and Haw discovered the cheese was gone, they were dismayed and unprepared. In response, Hem yelled aggressively and demanded to know who had moved his cheese. Haw was just stunned at his situation.
Hem insisted on having his cheese back without taking any action since he was obstinate and refused to accept the circumstances. However, Haw took the circumstances into account, accepted the change, and recommended looking for new cheese.
He encouraged Hem to follow him but Hem was too lazy to move and worried about getting lost in the maze. Even though it was difficult, Haw felt strong after taking his first step.
Though it was unpleasant, Haw decided to move on. He would scavenge leftovers along the route and live. His confidence increased as he explored more of the maze and discovered a lot about himself and change. He wrote some lessons on the maze's walls, hoping that his stubborn friend might stumble upon them.
In the end, the author urges us to understand that bravery is essential in confronting life's challenges, as all of us must embark on our own journey. The main lesson is "The quicker you let go of your old grudges, the sooner you find new reasons to move on." Change is unavoidable; if you are slow to grab the flow, you might be left behind.
