100% security ensured for foreign nationals: Home advisor
Jahangir Alam sought Canada’s support in bringing back the money laundered from Bangladesh to Canada.
Full fledged security has been ensured for all foreign nationals living in Bangladesh, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) told Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Lilly Nicholls today (9 September).
During the meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon, the home affairs adviser and the Canadian high commissioner discussed various issues, including development of mutual relations between the two countries, safety of foreign nationals, Rohingya crisis, police reform, cooperation in agriculture sector and return of laundered money.
Jahangir Alam sought Canada's support in bringing back the money laundered from Bangladesh to Canada.
Assuring full cooperation, Lilly Nicholls said bringing back the laundered money is challenging and time-consuming but not impossible.
In this regard, the high commissioner advised to send a formal proposal and letter with specific information and evidence through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
The high commissioner also expressed concern about the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
Stating that the Rohingya situation is being monitored very closely, the advisor said, "We have given top priority to the safety of the Myanmar nationals living in the Rohingya camps, as well as the local and foreign NGO workers working there."
The adviser also requested the resettlement of some Rohingyas in Canada.
