Bangladesh women outclass Sweden in Chess Olympiad showdown
This victory, Bangladesh's fifth in the tournament, saw them jump 12 places to 28th in the women's section, with 11 points from eight rounds.
The Bangladesh women's chess team delivered another strong performance in the 45th Chess Olympiad, securing a 2.5-1.5 victory against a formidable Swedish side in the eighth round held in Budapest, Hungary, on 19 September.
In the four matches between Bangladesh and Sweden, WCM Walijah Ahmed was defeated by GM Pia Cramling, while WCM Nusrat Jahan Alo triumphed over WIM Inna Agrest. WFM Wadifa Ahmed drew with WFM Anna Cramling Bellon, and WIM Rani Hamid clinched a win against Margarita Zaritovskaja.
They are set to face Argentina today.
In contrast, the Bangladesh men's team slipped to 84th position after suffering a 3-1 loss to Kazakhstan in the open section on 19 September.
IM Fahad Rahman managed a draw against GM Denis Makhnev, and FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia also drew with IM Aldiyar Ansat. However, FM Manon Reza Neer and GM Niaz Murshed were defeated by GM Kazybek Nogerbek and GM Alisher Suleymenov, respectively. The men's team, currently on eight points, will next take on Albania.
