Two sisters die after drowning in Chittagong pond

Two young sisters lost their lives after drowning in a pond near their home in the Charlakshya area of Karnaphuli upazila in Chittagong on Saturday afternoon, 21 September.
The victims have been identified as Farzana Islam Meem, 11, and her younger sister, Rumain Islam, 8. They were the daughters of Mohammad Ismail Hosen, residents of Ward No. 03 in the Charlakshya union.
Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Monir Hossain confirmed the incident, stating, "A team of police visited the spot, and legal procedures are underway."
According to local sources, the sisters, along with another child, were playing near their home in the afternoon. While going down to a nearby pond for a bath, both girls accidentally drowned. Hearing the screams of the third child, neighbours rushed to the scene and pulled the sisters from the water around 4:30 pm.
They were first taken to a local hospital, where doctors referred them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Farzana was declared dead upon arrival at CMCH, while Rumain was transferred to Agrabad Ma O Shishu Hospital Medical College, where she died later that evening in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
