Traffic gridlock plagues capital as protesters block Gulshan-2 intersection for 3.5 hours

Protesters blocked the Gulshan-2 intersection in the capital for 3.5 hours today (23 September), creating severe traffic gridlock in adjacent areas.
Tareq Mahmud, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Traffic Division, said a group of students blocked the road and staged a demonstration around 3pm in front of the BSB Global Network office, a foreign study counselling agency, in the Gulshan-2 area.
As a result, traffic movement was halted on the Kakoli to Badda Notunbazar road via Gulshan-2 and the United Hospital to Gulshan-1 road via Gulshan-2.

Protesters have claimed that they paid a huge amount of money – over Tk17 lakh per person in some cases – to the agency, which promised to send students abroad for studies.
The agency, however, did not do so. At the same time, it also allegedly did not return the money and provided no receipt.
Around 6:30pm, protesters moved away from the Gulshan-2 intersection and traffic movement resumed, according to Gulshan Traffic Police.
Efforts are underway to restore normal traffic flow, Traffic Gulshan Division said in post on Facebook.
