Tourist limit to be imposed on St Martin's Island: Rizwana
Single-use plastic on the island will also be banned
Measures will be taken to limit the number of tourists and restrict overnight stays on St Martin's Island, Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said today (7 October).
Single-use plastic on the island will also be banned, the adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change told a briefing at the Secretariat.
The briefing also covered discussions on eco-friendly tourism management and the conservation of biodiversity on St Martin's Island.
The adviser mentioned that initiatives were being taken to make St Martin's, Cox's Bazar, and Kuakata free of single-use plastics.
She emphasised the uniqueness of St Martin's as the only coral island in Bangladesh, highlighting the necessity of taking decisive steps to preserve it.
Rizwana also urged all for compliance with previous guidelines regarding the ban on single-use plastics. She added that discussions will be held with hotel owners, tour operators, and the Ministry of Tourism to finalise decisions before the upcoming tourist season.
She expressed her desire to preserve St Martin's for future generations and see it become a tranquil, noise-free island.
