Ten Doeschate confident of a 5-0 sweep as India eyes whitewash over Bangladesh
Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s assistant coach, has made it clear that they aim to win the third T20I and conclude the tour with a 5-0 overall victory, adding to the earlier triumph in the Test series.
India has thoroughly dominated Bangladesh in the first two matches of the T20I series, delivering resounding victories.
After being completely outplayed by a formidable Indian side, Bangladesh's performance in the Test series wasn't much better, as they were whitewashed 2-0.
With the final T20I match approaching, India is eyeing a complete sweep. Ryan ten Doeschate, India's assistant coach, has made it clear that they aim to win the third T20I and conclude the tour with a 5-0 overall victory, adding to the earlier triumph in the Test series.
In a press conference ahead of the third match, ten Doeschate said, "Of course, we want to finish on a high. Gautam's (India's head coach Gautam Gambhir) message has been that every game we play is for the country. There might be added pressure, but there's no room for complacency. We are certainly aiming for a 3-0 victory in the T20Is, making it a 5-0 sweep for the entire tour. We've played some excellent cricket throughout, and we also need to assess the new players. In the first match, we had two debutants, and we've still got players like Jitesh, Harshit (Rana), and Tilak (Varma) who haven't had the chance to feature. We want to see how they perform, as they will be crucial for us going forward."
Ten Doeschate also expressed satisfaction with the all-rounders in the squad, noting, "It's vital to maintain balance within the team. While you might not want to include too many bowlers, the same can be said about the batting line-up. In some cases, you might prefer to play a specialist bowler, which provides the captain with more options. The modern game has evolved to the point where 5-6 bowlers can all perform effectively, so having these extra options is a great advantage. For instance, Hardik didn't bowl in the last game, but that gave us the opportunity to assess our bowling depth."
Commenting on the Hyderabad pitch, ten Doeschate added, "We've just arrived, so I haven't seen the pitch yet, but it seems somewhat similar to the one in Delhi. There, the pitch was a bit sticky, and we lost three early wickets. The IPL matches here were high-scoring, but that was five months ago, so the conditions could be different. We're hoping for a high-scoring contest and another quality match."
Ten Doeschate, who has worked closely with Gambhir in the past, joined India's coaching staff for this tour. Prior to this, he served as Kolkata Knight Riders' fielding coach, where he also worked under Gambhir during his time as a mentor for the team.
Reflecting on his experience working with the Indian squad, ten Doeschate said, "It's been a fantastic experience. Watching them up close has given me a better understanding of how good they really are. I've seen them play on TV and in franchise cricket, but working directly with them shows their remarkable quality. It's a joy to see the young players come into the team, and everyone understands the system. Managing so much talent is a challenge, but it's an enjoyable one. You always want to bring out the best in them."
The third and final T20I between India and Bangladesh will take place on 12 october, with the match set to begin at 7:30 PM Bangladesh time.
