Human chain in Rajshahi demands education policy to raise awareness on menstrual health
Rajshahi University students’ organisation Sixth Sense formed a human chain on Friday demanding withdrawal of proposed fresh tax imposed on sanitary napkins.
The need for sanitary napkins are natural for women. It is an essential product, but high costs are preventing many from using it, said Sixth Sense, an organisation of Rajshahi University, at a human chain at the city’s Saheb Bazar Zero Point on Friday afternoon.
If the government imposes fresh tax on sanitary napkins, the prices will go up further. The high prices will cut down sanitary napkin users, which in turn will increase health complications in many women, speakers at the event said.

Criticising the proposed fresh taxes on sanitary napkins, the demonstrators pressed home their demands – withdrawal of 40 percent tax on sanitary napkins, introduction of a subsidy, and ensuring hygienic washroom with emergency pad corners at educational institutions and workplaces.
They also demanded that a special education policy be implemented to raise awareness on women’s health during menstruation.
President of Sixth Sense Nawreen Amina, General Secretary Abdul Momen and Publicity Secretary Nayeem Hossain spoke at the event among many others.
