Steps to be taken for Hasina’s extradition: Touhid
The adviser said they have one month time in hand
The government will take necessary steps to bring former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back home as the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants against her and top Awami League leaders, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said today (17 October).
"We will take all necessary steps. The court has given one month, and we will do whatever is required to bring her back within that time," he told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
When asked about the extradition process, the adviser said, "How we bring her back is not important. What's important is that the court has ordered her arrest.
The adviser further said the warrant had not reached them yet, it is with the police. "But the police can't act since she is not in the country. Once it reaches us, we will see."
In response to whether Hasina is currently in Delhi, adviser Touhid said, "We have unofficially learned that she is indeed in Delhi."
He further mentioned that the government is working to locate all 45 individuals for whom arrest warrants have been issued by the court.
Along with the warrants, the Tribunal has ordered law enforcement agencies to ensure the arrest Hasina and the others accused and present them before the court by 18 November.
