Banglamotor accident: Another unlicensed driver causes limb loss
Morshed does not even have a license for driving a bus. He only had a license to drive medium category vehicles
Trust Transport Service bus driver Morshed had a driving license for medium category vehicles. His document does not allow him to drive a bus.
Violating the law, he was driving a 40-seat-vehicle in Banglamotor on August 27 and badly injured a person on his first day of bus driving.
The BIWTC official Krishna Roy Chowdhury lost her leg in the accident as the bus ran her over on a pavement.
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) rounded up the driver on Sunday night from Dhaka.
"He was driving a bus for the first time on that day. Previously, he would drive private cars and work as a helper," said PBI Special Superintendent of Police Bashir Ahmed.
"Morshed does not even have a license for driving a bus. He only had a license to drive medium category vehicles," another PBI official said.
The PBI conducted operations in different areas of Dhaka and Kishoreganj in last few days to arrest the driver. But he was smart enough to leave the capital soon after the accident, the PBI Dhaka Metro (North) Inspector Tariqul Islam said.
Having fled the scene of accident on that day, Morshed went to his Ibrahimpur residence in capital's Mirpur. Next, he quickly packed his bag, changed SIM card and headed for his home in Kishoreganj, explained Tariqul.
Morshed was concerned about the case filed against him. He would never sleep in his home at night. Even a PBI team returned empty-handed after a raid as he sensed their presence.
He returned to Dhaka on Sunday to avert arrest. However, a PBI team rounded him up from Dhaka's Kazipara around 10:30 pm.
However, during the primary interrogation, Morshed claimed the bus was faulty and the accident was unintentional.
