A complaint has been lodged against Bangladeshi film star Shakib Khan and mobile network service provider Robi for copyright infringement.
Shakib Khan's movie "Password" that was released in 2019 uses some lines from the popular Bangla movie song "Pagol Mon, Mon Re, Mon Keno Eto Kotha Bole…".
Barrister Olora Afrin filed the complaint on behalf of the song's singer Dilruba Khan, lyricist Kaiser Ahmed and composer Ashraf Udas.
The complaint was filed at the cyber unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) under section 23 of the Digital Security Act, Olora Afrin told The Business Standard on Sunday.
Olara Afrin claimed that Shakib Khan used two peak lines of the songs in his movie without permission. The song was copyrighted. He has infringed copyright by using it in the movie.
He was first given a legal notice in February this year seeking compensation of Tk 10 crore. We have lodged this complaint after meeting with Shakib Khan several times but no result came.
"Besides, Robi has used the song that was used in Shakib's movie commercially. Which is why we have also accused Robi," she added.
Ashok Singh sang the song in the movie 'Password' directed by Malek Afsari. Shakib Khan synced his lips to it.
