National University to return to admission test from next session: VC
Families of students who died in July-August uprising will be given Tk3 lakh each, he says
National University (NU) has decided to reintroduce admission tests for enrolling students in first year honours and degree programmes from the next academic session.
Vice Chancellor of the university Prof ASM Amanullah made the announcement at an event on improving the standard of education in Shibganj upazila of Bogura on Saturday.
Previously, in 2022, National University started enrolling students in first-year graduate courses based on their SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations' results.
At the event on Saturday, joined by teachers and students from six colleges, the vice chancellor gave out strategic plans to reform the existing syllabi with a view to enhancing the quality of degrees conferred by the varsity and further developing its industry-academia link, says a NU press release.
As the chief guest, the vice chancellor also proposed the inclusion of short ICT and technical courses at graduation (degree/honours) level to enable the students to meet the needs of the modern world.
All necessary support will be provided to this end, he said.
Prof Amanullah also issued a roadmap for issues such as increasing class attendance of students, monitoring assignments and in-courses and developing infrastructures of NU affiliated colleges.
In addition, steps will be made to establish a regional office of National University in Bogura, he said.
The vice chancellor also announced the year 2025 as the "examination year" of National University.
"Stalled examinations are being held, and it is hoped that 80% of the ongoing session jams will be solved by the end of next year," he said further.
In the event presided over by UNO Tahmina Akter, the National University VC Prof Amanullah said, in cooperation with the July Foundation, each of the families of National University students who died during the July-August mass uprising will be given Tk3 lakh.
Also, family members of those killed during the movement will be given the highest priority in NU recruitment, he said.
Vice Chancellor of Agriculture University, Gazipur, GKM Mostafizur Rahman was present as guest of honour.
