Position: Research Communications Specialist
Reports To: Associate Director, Research & Evaluation
Job Responsibilities
We are seeking a Research Communications Specialist to bridge the gap between our research team and diverse audiences, including policymakers, practitioners, stakeholders, and the public. The ideal candidate will have a passion for translating complex ideas into compelling narratives and a proven ability to craft engaging content across various platforms.
Major Responsibilities:
- Content Development: Create clear, engaging, and accessible content, including research summaries, reports, policy briefs, blog posts, infographics, and presentations.
- Digital Strategy: Manage and enhance the organisation's online presence through social media, website content, and newsletters.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Tailor communications to meet the needs of key stakeholders, including funders, policymakers, and industry leaders.
- Communications Calendar: Prepare and maintain a comprehensive communications calendar to ensure timely and strategic dissemination of content across various platforms.
- Knowledge Translation: Collaborate with researchers to distil technical findings into actionable insights for non-academic audiences.
- Media Outreach: Develop press releases and coordinate with media outlets to amplify research findings.
- Event Support: Coordinate communications for events, webinars, and conferences, including promotional materials and post-event summaries.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Experience Requirements: Proven experience in science or research communication.
Additional Requirements:
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to simplify and contextualise complex concepts for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in digital tools (e.g., content management systems, social media platforms, graphic design software).
- Familiarity with research methodologies and data interpretation.
- Experience in multimedia production (e.g., videos, podcasts).
- Knowledge of women's health, climate change, mental health, and water sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
