The Batman Part 2 pushed back to 2027
The highly anticipated sequel to 'The Batman', directed by Matt Reeves, has been delayed again, now set to hit theatres on 1 October, 2027. Initially slated for October 2025, the release was previously postponed to October 2026 before this latest shift.
The delay means fans will endure a five-year gap since Robert Pattinson's debut as the Dark Knight in 2022. Addressing concerns over the wait, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn pointed out that long sequel gaps are common, citing examples like Avatar and The Incredibles.
"To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels. 7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3," said Gunn.
Despite limited details, Reeves confirmed Colin Farrell's return as The Penguin, and the sequel will remain separate from the main DC Universe, continuing its "Batman Epic Crime Saga."
Meanwhile, Alejandro González Iñárritu's untitled project starring Tom Cruise takes the vacated 2026 slot, and other Warner Bros releases have reshuffled dates, including Pattinson's 'Mickey 17'.
