Beyoncé named Billboard's No. 1 artist of the 21st century
Beyoncé has officially been named the greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard.
The accolade secures her the No. 1 spot on the site's staff-curated list, celebrating her unparalleled impact on the music industry and popular culture, reports HuffPost.
Beyoncé's journey to superstardom began in the early '90s with the girl group Girl's Tyme.
She rose to prominence with the R&B powerhouse Destiny's Child, delivering chart-topping hits that cemented her place in the industry. The group's first No. 1 hit, "Bills, Bills, Bills," dominated the Billboard Hot 100 in March 2000, followed shortly by their anthem "Say My Name."
The artist embarked on a solo career in 2003 with her debut album Crazy in Love, featuring the iconic title track that became a cultural phenomenon. Her solo efforts garnered numerous accolades, including being recognised as the Recording Industry Association of America's top-certified artist of the 2010s.
Highlighting her influence, Billboard acknowledged Beyoncé's ability to innovate and adapt across decades, stating: "With her solo bonafides more than established, Bey would spend 2004 doing one more lap around the Billboard charts alongside Kelly and Michelle in Destiny's Child."
