Ekushey Padak-winning actor Jamal Uddin Hossain passes away

Veteran television actor and freedom fighter Jamal Uddin Hossain, who was honoured with the Ekushey Padak, has passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in Calgary, Canada.
The actor, aged 81, was pronounced dead around 8pm on Friday (Canada time), according to fellow actor and theatre director Shamsul Alam Bakul, reports local media.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday following a funeral prayer in Calgary.
Hossain began his acting career in stage plays during the mid-seventies. A prominent member of the civic theatre scene, he went on to make his mark in television dramas and films.
His wife, Roshan Ara Hossain, is also a well-known actress.
In recent years, Jamal Uddin was not active in the entertainment industry. For the last seven years, he lived permanently in the United States with his daughter.
Among his notable works as a director are the popular television dramas Chand Boniker Pala, Khachar Vitor Achin Pakhi, Raja Rani, Bibi Saheb, and Jugolbondi.
