HBO finds its John Stewart for Lanterns
HBO's upcoming DCU series, Lanterns, which follows the Green Lantern Corps, has just cast one of its key characters. Aaron Pierre has been officially cast as Green Lantern John Stewart. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn announced the news on social media Wednesday, stating that Pierre was chosen after "a long and gruelling series of auditions."
This marks a significant casting for the broader DCU, as John Stewart has long been a fan favourite in the comics. According to HBO's official synopsis, Lanterns will centre on "new recruit John Stewart and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops pulled into a dark, earth-bound mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland."
Aaron Pierre is expected to star alongside Emmy winner Kyle Chandler, who has been in talks to play Hal Jordan. According to Deadline, Chandler is "expected to finalise" the deal for the role.
