Have you ever wondered what the world would look like if everything was turned upside down? Without reversing the laws of gravity, the Upside Down BD Gallery in Lalmatia offers this very experience to visitors in a fun and creative way. We had the chance to visit the gallery for ourselves, take some otherworldly pictures and have some fun with friends.
"Upside down galleries are a social media phenomenon abroad and we wanted to introduce it locally when the gallery was started in May of 2019", says Bipul Roy, the supervisor at the gallery.
The gallery offers seven different rooms for visitors to experience and take pictures, each room having a different theme and setting. Entire dining rooms, offices, stairways are suspended from the roof of the gallery complete with phenomenal attention to detail (i.e, inverted chess boards and washing machines) to make the experience quite convincing and immersive.

Sometimes the rooms can be flipped upside down or tilted ninety degrees for some crazy pictures. Additionally, the gallery provides each group with their own guide who helps visitors pose and take surreal photos.
We found ourselves in creative poses while taking these upside-down pictures (the staff was very patient and accommodating in helping get the pose just right) so that it looked realistic. In that regard, we strongly recommend visiting the place with friends or family for the sheer good time you will have laughing at each other's unusual poses.
In the end, it's all worth it when you flip the pictures over and attain shots that only Spiderman and special effects could have gotten. There is also a cosy little café right next to the gallery which offers snacks and refreshments once you are done or are waiting for your turn. Moreover, the gallery also provides costumes and unique backgrounds to take more aesthetic photographs as well.

The entry fee for the gallery is Tk300 per person due to a special discount (usually it's Tk.400), which lets visitors take as many photos as they want on their phones or pay a little extra for high-quality DSLR pictures. Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and safety regulations, Roy said, "Although we did experience a dip in the number of visitors due to COVID-19, we are taking all the measures necessary to keep the visitors safe, i.e., no mask no entry, ensuring that visitors sanitise their hands before entering the gallery, etc."
When we visited the gallery for ourselves, the staff was very cautious to follow safety protocols like hand sanitisation and allowing one group of visitors in the gallery at a time.
In conclusion, if you want to have a great time with your friends or family while getting some really amazing photos for your social media feed, this place is well worth visiting. It is open every day from 11 to 9 pm.
