I’ve found my godfather: Khijir Hayat Khan
Khijir Hayat Khan steps into uncharted territories as he juggles his filmmaking career with his appointment to the Bangladesh Film Certification Board
Khijir Hayat Khan, although well known for films like 'Jago,' 'Ora 7 Jon,' and 'Mr Bangladesh', most recently made waves for something that goes beyond the realms of filmmaking. The director has joined the restructured Bangladesh Film Certification Board, adding yet another feather to his cap.
"Our artistes and crew should not be sidelined. I believe that the current policies for joint productions need some reform," Khan stated.
Although this may invariably lead Khan to shy away from his primary job as a filmmaker, he doesn't mind taking a slight break in service of the bigger picture.
"Sometimes, personal interests need to take a backseat for the greater good. Since the state has entrusted me with this responsibility, I will fulfil it with integrity. Of course, this will cause some delays in my directing projects, but that's a small price to pay," Khan said.
However, it is not as if the 45-year-old has stopped making films altogether. In fact, he is gearing up to make two new movies— 'Samrajyo' and 'Karar Oi Louho Kopat'. The former, which was announced last December, is inspired by one of Khan's personal favourite movies- the legendary 1972 film 'Godfather.'
Due to his appointment to the Bangladesh Film Certification Board, Khan said that he has had to juggle his time between his filmmaking career and his new responsibilities, but he remained hopeful that the movie would start shooting next year.
"We have finished the third draft of the script, and we will be moving on to the fourth one soon," mentioned Khan.
Since 'Samrajyo' is being inspired by the iconic Hollywood film Godfather, some fans are buzzing about who might fill the iconic shoes of characters made famous by Marlon Brando and Al Pacino.
"I've already spoken to two actors in Bangladesh for these roles, but no official contracts have been signed yet. But rest assured, I've found my Godfather. He's an actor I admire, but I can't reveal more at this moment," said Khan, remaining tight-lipped.
The esteemed director also has a penchant for making an appearance in his own films, due to his love of acting. When asked about whether this is a possibility in the upcoming movies, he shared, "I'd love to, but the film's needs always come first. I'll decide once we get to the shoot."
Khan is also planning another movie titled 'Karar Oi Louho Kopat'. The story has already been written, and he is now making further preparations. He's keeping fans on their toes, as he plans to announce the production timeline soon.
"I wrote the story 12 years ago, but I'm making some alterations because times have changed. I'm in talks with investors, and once the financing is secured, we'll jump into filming," informed Khan.
Khan has a reputation for action-packed films. So naturally, fans are curious to know if his upcoming projects will follow the same convention.
"Both Samrajyo and Karar Oi Louho Kopat are political thrillers. I'm looking to step away from pure action for a while. Though someday, I'd love to explore a romantic storyline too," concluded Khan.
