Abahani unbeaten champions of DPL 2024

Abahani Ltd beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by four wickets in a last-over finish to become the unbeaten champions of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2024 at the BKSP-4 in Savar on Tuesday. 

It was Abahani's 14th straight win in the tournament. Afif Hossain, Tanvir Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib - part of Bangladesh's squad for the Zimbabwe T20I series - returned to play the potential title-ensuring match for Abahani.

This was Abahani's fifth DPL title since the tournament received List A status in the 2013-14 season. 

In the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto, they were led by Mosaddek Hossain, who hit a crucial unbeaten 53* off 54 to fire Abahani to an exciting victory while chasing 268.

The match also marked the return of Shakib Al Hasan, who is likely to be available for a couple of DPL matches for Sheikh Jamal, scoring 49 off 56 batting at five.

There were also 40s - from Shykat Ali and Nurul Hasan - and a valiant 85 off 58 from Ziaur Rahman down the order that helped Sheikh Jamal to 267-9 after 20 overs.

Fast bowler Tanzim and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan shared six wickets between them. 

In reply, Afif hit a superb 83 off 88 with the help of eight fours and two sixes before Mosaddek's late-order finish. Anamul Haque also made a substantial contribution of 67 off 80 deliveries.
